Classic globes without a matching compass were considered incomplete. Our beautifully constructed bronze and wooden stand with paper globe contains a faithful reproduction of a "dry" compass from the 17th century. Twelve paper wedges applied to the globe are printed from original drawings by Gerardus Mercator, the inventor of the Mercator projection, which was used from the 16th to the mid-20th century.
