With its unmistakable shape, the CH25 Lounge Chair is clean and simple – as are many other legendary designs by Hans J. Wegner. The introduction of the Lounge Chair caused a sensation due to Wegner's choice of materials for the backrest and seat. The braided paper cord was a replacement for seaweed and was developed during World War II. The material had never been used for furniture before. However, Wegner was impressed by the look of the paper cord, which does not stretch and offers optimal durability, and the same goes for subsequent generations. The CH25 Lounge Chair has enjoyed great popularity ever since then and has been in continuous production since 1950 – a testament to Wegner's visionary approach to design. An experienced craftsman needs 10 hours and about 400 meters of paper cord to weave a seat and backrest by hand, using a specific, web-like technique visible on both sides of the backrest. The impressive result of this demanding process is an extraordinary chair that fascinates from all angles.
