Speakeasies were the worst kept secrets of Prohibition. When prohibition came into effect on January 17, 1920, many thousands of formerly legal pubs open to men closed across the country. Those who wanted to drink had to buy spirits from licensed druggists for "medical" purposes, from clergy for "religious" reasons or from illegal sellers, so-called bootleggers. Another option was to enter private, unlicensed bar rooms nicknamed "speakeasies" because you had to speak the "password" to gain access to avoid being eavesdropped on by law enforcement. Take a seat on our spekeasy bar stool and experience the turbulence again! Colour: Silver & brown Material: steel, leather, aluminium and mango wood Dimensions: LxWxH: 47 x 47 x 80 cm
