The story behind the product: When developing the Toldbod range, Louis Poulsen's design team was inspired by the reflector part of the PH Eclipse: Poul Henningsen's last street lighting concept. Introduced in 1982, the outdoor lights called Toldbod 290 were the first products in the range. They were such a great success that the interior lights Toldbod Glass soon followed. Later, the pendant lamps made of metal were added, which were supplemented by four larger versions in 2019. The Toldbod pendant lamp emits most of the light downwards. This is in line with Poul Henningsen's philosophy of giving shape to light and illuminating spaces without shining directly into people's eyes. The matt white lacquered inside of the elliptical shade contributes to an even light emission. This makes the luminaire ideal for targeted as well as general lighting. The philosophy behind the original Toldbod pendant lamp by Louis Poulsen is: the simpler the design, the greater the flexibility. The soft and precise shape of the Toldbod works very well as a stand-alone installation. But it also looks beautiful in row or group installations – either in a single shade or in a colorful color palette.
